December 8, 2011 @ 7:42 am

It’s almost that time of the year again, and yours truly is part of the pre-selection panel for what is sure to be another fun filled year of screening some really awesome entrees (as well as some not so great ones.)

See, that’s me on the judges page: http://www.adobeawards.com/us/about/judges/

The first batch of stuff comes in for review at the end of January.

Android Apps

91.7fm WKDU
WKDU Streaming Radio

The official app for Philadelphia's 91.7 FM: WKDU. The native Android (and eventually iOS) app is currently being developed by myself and @alejandroid. The app will feature a streaming version of WKDU's live broadcast and function as the mobile hub for all things WKDU related.

We hope to have a beta version released by the end of the year.

Pictures of Vince Passed Out
Pictures of Vince Passed Out

Pictures of Vince Passed Out is pretty much my 'Hello World!' app using AIR for Android. The app is coded entirely in Actionscript 3 in Flash Pro and is exported as an Android app. The app pulls from the ever growing online database of images and with each tap of the screen will download and display a delightful picture of Vince sleeping somewhere. Next on the to-do list is adding database support so useres can upload and comment on pictures.

You can download the current APK right [HERE].

Lockheed Martin

Chief

Most of the work I have done for Lockheed is classified by the Department of Defense, or at the very least under a NDA by Lockheed Martin. Below are some of the projects I have directly overseen and worked on.

The Virtual Trainer

The Virtual Trainer was the largest project I worked on at Lockheed. The goal was to create a system that would overlay pre-existing web based Navy training simulations and provide helpful information, videos, tutorials, and quizzes to the students. Using a combination of Flash and JavaScript I created a full backend app that integrates with various web-based simulations. I then created a simple API that could be called anywhere throughout the Simulation to launch various aspects of the Virtual Trainer.
The Virtual Trainer has many different types of moduler assets that it can display. All assets are configured via XML, so no AS3 knowledge is required to use the program. Essentially once it is propperly set up, all you need to do is make and edit XML files to create anything from a note or warning, to a fully featured video player or interactive 3D tutorial.

Oscope

Tutorial Viewer/Creator

Tutorials are a very important part of the training process that Navy students go through, and is where a majority of class room time is spent. Working in part with the Virtual Trainer codebase I created, the Tutorial Viewer/Creator takes the same approach of creation, management, and viewing. Tutorials can consist of anything from simple videos or slideshows to full blown 3D interactive experiences. The flexability of the Tutorial program I created allows for simple XML configuration to yield powerful results.

Some of the other things I have created from scratch include Flash video players, audio players/managers, and fully accurate test equipment including a 3D Frequency Meter and an Oscilloscope

Flah 11: Stage 3D and Molehill

As soon as I get all my Flash stuff sorted I'll update this part. Mostly it's just a bunch of Stage3D tech demos and stress tests.

Fourmation

Fourmation is a globally recognized and award winning Flash game that was created as part of a Senior Design Project at Drexel University. Fourmation was awarded top honors in the Non-browser Based Design category at the 2009 Adobe Design Achievement Awards. Fourmation's win was announced in Beijing, China at the ICOGRADA World Design Congress in October of 2009.
While multiplayer servers are now down (thanks a lot Drexel) the single player version of Fourmation can still be downloaded at Fourmation's home page

hey guys

About Me

Hey, I'm Kyle! I'm a digital designer, artist, programmer, and whatever else you want to call me living in The City of Brotherly Love (that's Philadelphia, in case you didn't know.) That's me floating:right over there (nerd pun intended.)

For the past few years I have been doing Flash, Actionscript, Javascript, and Web work primarily for our country's largest defense contractor - Lockheed Martin. More recently though I have been trying to get into the mobile scene via native Android Apps, as well as exploring new options such as Adobe's cutting edge AIR for Android and iOS publishing tools.

I'm always looking for the next fun piece of technology or API to play with – and thanks to the internet it seems like I stumble upon one every day.
